Things to look out for when hiring a web designer
In this post, I’m looking at what you should be looking for when hiring a good freelance designer. Businesses benefit from someone who offers an all round package – a ‘one stop shop’ for all their design requirements brings consistency across all media and marketing. It’s not just about coding expertise, but someone who has the knowledge and experience to guide the whole process from branding, graphics and website design.
Is their portfolio good?
As with any industry, making sure their work showcases that they can do their job properly is essential. Having a good portfolio of work for small, medium and large businesses showcases their capabilities.
My portfolio shows a large range of work and demonstrates that I have worked with businesses and agencies of all sizes, with some exciting additions to come very soon.
Design expertise?
Does the designer have a real in-depth knowledge of designing brands or for the web? Have they worked in the design industry for a long time or are they fresh out of university with little experience? Are the websites designed good for all browsers? Are they good for accessibility? These are all questions that should be asked when considering a freelance designer..
Good feedback?
When hiring a freelance designer, making sure they have a good feedback from previous clients is key. Read through testimonials and ask for some previous client details to see if the designer is reliable, good with deadlines and keeping on task.
Do they have a passion for working with your business?
Making sure the freelancer is invested in the project is important and will always produce the best overall results. Any project that I take on is always something I’m passionate about and put 100% into.
Are they affordable?
The amount of clients that come to me saying, “I’ve received 5 quotes, ranging from £x to £xxxxx” is astonishing. Make sure you establish what each quote offers, and why the amount is that much is key into picking a freelance designer. Remember that the cheapest quote will usually mean compromising on quality.
The answer is ‘yes’
I’m confident that when hiring me, the answer to all the questions above will be ‘yes’. Just look at my testimonials or ask one of my previous clients in how well I work with them. I pride myself on my day to day work, I’m a freelance designer with a passion for great design. I take lots of pride in my work especially when I see positive feedback from something I’ve worked on, and I’d love to work with you too.
