My Story…
I was born and raised in the Yorkshire village of Mirfield. Throughout my school years I always particularly enjoyed and excelled the most in the artistic topics, from making Christmas decorations out of egg boxes and foil to having my polystyrene framed painting of a giant displayed in the local library. This led to me heading down the creative route in school and college, choosing subjects such as Art & Design as my main focus.
After initially contemplating a career in the Police Force and later volunteering as a Special Constable, it was only by chance that I became a Graphic Designer after my uncle invited me to work for him at Windmill Tapes as an Apple Mac Operator where I was taught the fundamental Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop basics. From then on I was hooked, I thrived on the daily challenges that teaching myself brought (and I still do!!) however frustrating it can get, it still gives me a great sense of achievement. This was the start of a varied and interesting career spanning over two decades (so far).
So to sum it all up, I have been a graphic designer for print and web since 1996 and have worked for the NHS, International Pharmaceutical Companies, SMEs and the most recent being the The Royal College of Physicians. It was however, back in 2008 that I decided to start my own business, the imaginatively titled Jelli’s Design (get the play on my maiden name? – Jennifer Ellis), to provide the best possible design and marketing services whilst also having the flexibility to juggle work with being a mum to my now 16 and 12 year old daughters. I love the fact that I have had the opportunity to be there for them through the school years, so working the hours in the day that’s not the conventional 9am-5pm suits me just fine!!
